President’s Message
Welcome to the January 2026 edition of our Club Bulletin.

I hope that everyone had a great Christmas and New Year! A big thank you to all our members who gave up their time to help with the Bunnings BBQ’s held on Saturday, 20th December and Sunday, 28th December. Our next Bunnings BBQ is being held on Saturday, 10th January. If you available to help, please contact Robert George.

I would like to have a discussion at our first Breakfast Meeting for the year on Wednesday, 14th January regarding the proposal from District 9705 to replace the current role of Rotary Community Leader with a new role of Club Mentor. Our Club would become part of Group 9. Group 9 consists of the two Rotary Clubs in Bathurst along with the Rotary Clubs of Blayney and Oberon. I would encourage everyone to read article in the December 2025 edition of the District 9705 Newsletter for more information and details. I am keen to capture everyone’s thoughts so that I can submit a response on behalf of our Club on the proposal. Please feel free to contact me if you are unable to access the District Newsletter.

I am also keen for our Club to choose and fund a local project in the Bathurst community that supports our local community in which we all live. Please feel free to contact me if you have any ideas.

During January we need to hold an Extraordinary Annual General Meeting (AGM) to fill the vacant roles on the Board for the 2026/2027 Rotary Year. The only roles filled so far are the President and Secretary. Please feel free to speak with the Incoming President Erik Mol if you are interested in volunteering to be a member of the Board.

Please find below some key dates for activities that out Club is involved with for the first half of 2026.

Oberon Shakespeare Festival being held between Friday, 5th to Saturday, 7th March in Oberon. Our Club has been asked for volunteers to help from the Rotary Club of Oberon with this event.

Science and Engineering Challenge in the gym at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Bathurst on Thursday, 26 March. Volunteers from our Club will be needed to help with this exciting event including setting up on Wednesday, 25 March. If you are available to help, please let Sonia Bostjancic know.

Our Club will be working with the Rotary Club of Bathurst is supplying breakfast for the 2026 HD HR Nationals being held by the HR HD Holden Club in Bathurst on Sunday, 7th June at Mount Panorama in Bathurst. Please note that this activity is being held over the long weekend of the Kings Birthday. Our role is to cook and serve bacon and egg rolls etc. We hope to also have a coffee van on site.
 
I look forward to working with everyone as President for the remainder of the 2025/2026 Rotary Year where we can all ‘Unit for Good’.

Scotland

The Rotary Club of Elgin supports numerous initiatives for youth, including a Rotaract club, an Interact club, and several RotaKids clubs, which are a program of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland to build citizenship and leadership skills in children under 12. At the Greenwards school, RotaKids clubs are a go-to activity, reports teacher Kirstin Mustard, one of four club leaders. In February, the RotaKids held a rummage sale, collecting about $100 for The Rotary Foundation. In June, they sponsored a walk that raised about $3,200 for Harry’s Hat, a charity for the condition hydrocephalus, a buildup of water in the brain. That organization assisted the family of one of the youths. Stephanie Urchick, 2024-25 RI president, visited that month and was treated to a performance based on a history project. “It was truly inspiring to see the passion, creativity, and compassion shown by the pupils,” she says. “Their community spirit shines through.”
