Thankyou all for a great breakfast meeting attendance with some lively discussions and new year fun and laughter. We welcome back Ada from Finland and it looks like she had a wonderful experience over in Scandinavia. The BBBQs have gone well despite heavy rain showers for the last two, much gratitude to those helping and organising those fundraising events. As we look to the next few months we have SEC and MRHEV so please help if you can. We had some great news reducing the cost of SEC with over $4000 sponsorship from an unknown benefactor. This is great considering our overall fundraising monies might be reduced due to less BBBQ. Hopefully we can do the Farmers Markets at the end of the month. There are a few regional meetings coming up if anyone wishes to attend, details at the next meeting!

Charles Grey, a British Whig, (later known as the Liberal Party), was a statesman and British Prime Minister. Grey was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, and was elected to Parliament at the age of 22 in 1786. He was noted for advocating Parliamentary reform and Catholic emancipation. In 1806, Grey, then known as Lord Howick, because of his father’s elevation to the peerage as Earl Grey, became a part of the “Ministry of All the Talents” as First Lord of the Admiralty. Lord Howick soon took over as both Foreign Secretary and leader of the Whigs. The Government fell from power the next year and Howick went to the Lords the same year, succeeding his father as Earl Grey. He continued in opposition for the next 23 years. In 1830, the Whigs finally returned to power, with Grey as Prime Minister. His Ministry was responsible for the Great Reform Bill of 1832, the first major step towards modern parliamentary democracy, in the teeth of opposition from the Duke of Wellington, his predecessor in 10 Downing Street which finally saw the reform of the House of Commons, and the abolition of slavery throughout the British Empire in 1833

The club picked up Ukrainian refugees to Finland by bus in summer 2022. The club received support for the project from local businesses and club members. To support the project, they have also erected a memorial forest in the centre of Karis.
• The Rotary Doctor Bank of Finland
The Rotary Doctor Bank of Finland is funded by all Finnish Rotarians.
The medical bank has operated in Tanzania since 2002 in the hospitals of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania. Volunteer doctors and dentists have been sent to Tanzania through the Medical Bank with the help of self-financing collected by the Finnish Rotary Service and development cooperation project support granted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Each year, volunteer doctors may be sent to Tanzania for six or more weeks. The work is unpaid, but doctors receive reimbursement for travel, a daily allowance and insurance. Doctors participate in the work of the hospital with available equipment, and also carry out educational work. In addition to the pleasure of humanitarian work, the participants have felt that they have gained experience that would not be possible in Finland.
The building known as Old Government Cottage is a rare, intact example, of an early Bathurst home. This historic building is located at 16 Stanley Street on the western side of the Macquarie River in the area of the old Government settlement. The building was re-opened after its recent repair and refurbishment in July 2012. This was the first major work on the building since the mid 1960s.
