Well another jam packed month of activities for our club. We have had some amazing guest speakers with lots of information about the Bathurst nurses in the Great War, dementia, and the ladies from the University of Newcastle providing lots of SEC information about our club’s contribution to the event. We have raised a lot of money from the very Successful BBBQ, so Thankyou all for your help to make it happen. Our SEC went well, a little light on students this year however compared to last by about 25 due to two schools dropping out. It was a fabulous day and Thankyou to all of our band of volunteers who helped with set up, take down, activities and catering. Many thanks to CSU and our sponsors and for all of your support. There has been a great local Rotary club collaboration over the past month with the Oberon Shakespeare festival, our SEC, Orange Rotary markets, and many more future projects to come. It is great to join forces with Bathurst, Blayney, Oberon and Orange. We have several more joint activities coming up, including another BBBQ with Bathurst on the 13th April, tree planting with Bathurst, and Oberon have requested help with car parking at Mayfield gardens over the holidays. We have been invited to Blayney for a dinner on the 16th and we have the catering for the dog show in September. The Woy Woy Opera in the Arboritum went well despite terrible weather. I was planning to go and help but had other family commitments instead. Let’s hope next year maybe we can help. This week we have Chido reporting back from the NYSF as our guest speaker. The Rotary Club of Orillia meets on Tuesdays at 4.45pm for 5.15. It has been in existence for over 75 years and has approximately 70 members. In recent decades it has donated over $700,000 for various causes. In 2024 its total donations were $55,000.
Club activities include a car lottery worth $75,000 for the car and sundry prizes, a lobsterfest, and construction and running of a miniature train in a local park. In 2009 the club paid $150,000 for the naming rights for a two-rink ice hockey complex. This is called Rotary Place.
